Palazzo Colonna in Rome: In the area occupied today by the imposing Palazzo Colonna, were originally a few palaces and buildings. These were erected by the ancestors of the Colonna family whose origins can be traced back to the ancient Counts of Tusculana. The oldest part of palace, dating back to the 13th century, has long since been incorporated into the single and ambitious architectural complex which makes up the palace today. The major restructuring started in the 17th century and completed in the 18th century with the addition of the facades seen today along P.zza dei SS. Apostoli and V. della Pilotta. The family’s art collection, one of the most important in Rome, was collected after the Renaissance by more than one discerning Colonna ancestor. It is housed in the Galleria Colonna, a supreme example of baro- que architecture built and decorated in the 17th century under the patronage of Girolamo I Colonna and inaugurated in 1703. 1703.
Palazzo Colonna a Paliano: The foundations were laid in 1620 on the orders of Filippo I Colonna and completed around 1666, under the Cardinal Gerolamo. The work was carried out under the super- vision of the family architect, Antonio del Grande. In the rooms found on the main floor paintings by Italian and Spanish artist of the 17th and 18th century and a portrait of Marcantonio Colon- na, by Scipione Pulzone. In the entrance hall can be found pain- tings and landscapes attributed to G.Dughet and A. Locatelli.
