THE POLLEDRARA STORY

The Agritirismo La Polledrara is a Colonna family farnhouse and it was once an horse breeding farm of this noble family. The origins of this beautiful location date back in 1200.

The manor of Paliano, was given to the family Colonna from Pope Martino V and it stayed under their control until 1556, when Paolo IV overthrown them. The feud returned in the hands of Colonnas in XVI century.

The most interesting monuments dedicated to this family are the “Palazzo Ducale” and the “Collegiata di S.Andrea” (where the Colonnas remains are kept). In this baroque building, it is possible to admire a series of painting from the painter Pable Cespedes, that represent Marcantonio Colonna’s triumphal entry into Rome, right after the Lepanto battle in 1571.

The farmhouse is still a property of Colonna family and it was built in 1600 from the order of Filippo I. The village spreads all around the Fortress, which is a bastion erected as a defence of the entire valley during the Medieval era.

This castle is defined by its double sourrounding walls, able to resist the enemies attacks. The Fortress was in origin the residence of Colonna family (1300) and it has been transferred to the State in 1800. Today this building is a maximum security prison.
